In conjunction with the US Hide, Skin and Leather Association (USHSLA), the Leather Industries of America (LIA) held its 100th annual meeting at the end of September in Chicago.

Anchored by a presentation from LIA president, John Wittenborn, on the history of the US tanning industry, the speaker line-up also included Jon Clark, chief executive of Prime Asia Leather Company, who spoke about industry-led campaigns to promote leather. Stephen Jeske of GST AutoLeather took part too, discussing recent auto leather trends.

The audience also heard presentations from David Williamson, the chief technology officer of biofabrication start-up Modern Meadow, and from Seth DeGeest of Apex Efficiency Solutions, who spoke about new developments in wastewater treatment systems.

Both LIA and USHSLA held their annual general meetings and other association events during the gathering in Chicago. It was USHSLA’s 38th annual meeting.
