World Leather, established in 1987, is the world’s leading magazine for the leather industry. Published six times a year and three times in Chinese, it is essential reading for tanners, leather traders, manufacturers and the wider industry, featuring essential technical papers, country commentaries, topical articles and special supplements.


The seventh Tannery of the Year programme continues with a report in the August-September issue of World Leather on the work of Jinan Luri Junda Leather, from Shandong Province in China. The company’s main location is in a fairly rural setting, which is unusual and refreshing, but it works closely with two of the most prominent universities in leather technology in China. Some of the innovations to stem from these close ties may surprise readers. Also in this new issue of World Leather, we offer in-depth coverage of two major events: the XXXV IULTCS Congress in Dresden and the World Leather Congress in New York. All this comes with a full quota of technical articles, including a rare behind-the-scenes report on Ecco Leather and the way it builds up relationships with young designers to help it come up with fresh ideas.

Tannery of the Year was launched in 2009 to celebrate leather, to help promote the material’s use throughout the world and to share positive stories from tanners in every continent. We have in-depth reports on all the tanneries that have taken part so far, containing detailed information about their companies, the state of the industry and thousands of examples of best practice. These reports are also collected in four volumes of our Tannery of the Year book.
