Beef exports: up on last month, down on last year
09/03/2009
Brazil’s beef exports increased in February compared to the previous month, but 2009 results are still substantially lower than those of 2008.
The ministry of development, industry and external trade (MDIC) said that, across all sectors, Brazil’s export revenue for the month of February was $9.6 billion, a 26% drop compared to February 2008.
The beef industry’s contribution to this was 66,000 tonnes of beef, which had an export value of $185.9 milion. Compared to January, this represents an increase of 16.6% in volume and of 10.3% in value.
However, the totals represent a sizeable drop compared to February 2008, when Brazil exported 76,471 tonnes of beef, which had a value of $254.3 million.
