Independência puts all slaughter on hold
02/03/2009
Brazilian meat packing company Independência has announced the suspension of all slaughter activity in reaction, commentators have said, to the global economic downturn.
Luciano Vacari, a spokesman for the livestock industry in the state of Mato Grosso, said on hearing the news: “Independência has always been a well run company. If there are cash-flow problems there, it's a serious matter, because it would prove that the current crisis is not just affecting badly run companies.”
