Leather exports fall 10%

The Italian National Institute of Statistics (ISTAT) has reported that Italian exports rose just 2% in 2008 compared with 2007, while imports were up 2.5%. December exports fell 5.5% compared with December 2007, while imports dropped 10.3%.

Leathergoods exports fell 10.5% in December year-on-year, while exports of leather and leather products fell 8.1%. The only sector to show growth was machinery and mechanical appliances, the exports for which rose 1.2% in December.
