Jobs lost as Wollsdorf Leather unit closes

Austria-based upholstery leather producer Wollsdorf leather has announced that its Lower Wilhelmsburg plant is to close.

Reports indicate that 51 jobs have been lost at the site; while seven workers will be transferred to one of the company’s other two factories. Other employees will see their hours cut by 20%.
According to managing director, Andreas Kindermann, employee levels are down 40% compared with the same time last year.

Orders have fallen, particularly from the automotive sector, and this has taken its toll on the company. It has also suffered as a result of order cancellations.
