IILF off to a good start
Indian minister of state for commerce and industry, Dr Ashwani Kumar, inaugurated the 24th edition of the India International Leather Fair (IILF) on January 31. The show takes place in Chennai and runs until February 3.
A spokesperson from the Council for Leather Exports (CLE) told www.leatherbiz.com that approximately 7,900 m² has been booked by 380 exhibitors. Included in this number are 115 overseas exhibitors from 22 countries.
The CLE was responsible for giving out several export awards to Indian exporters who had performed particularly well in the 2007-2008 period. Of the 46 manufacturers and exporters chosen by CLE, Mumbai-based Tata International Ltd received the gold trophy and Kanpur-based Superhouse Ltd. won the silver trophy.
The CLE also honoured Irshad Mirza of M/s. Mirza International Ltd, Kanpur, with a leather industry award.
