Haining looks for new markets

30/01/2009

The leather garments industry in the Chinese province of Haining says it has had "remarkable results" in finding new markets for its products since first turning away from the US and Europe last year.

The economic downturn affected results during 2008, causing what the industry has called "a great loss in exports", so manufacturers in Haining City began to focus on developing markets instead.

One trader told local media recently that, as Haining-produced leather garments were low-cost and good quality, there was plenty of interest in them away from the luxury markets.
