Surge in trade with Brazil

Bilateral trade between Vietnam and Brazil grew substantially in 2008.

The flow of products between the two trading partners last year increased in value by 65%, to a total of $534.6 million.

Brazil had the greater share of trade, with bovine leather—to feed the Vietnamese footwear manufacturing sector—featuring as one of the most important exports. In all, Vietnam bought $334.5 million worth of goods from Brazil.

Telephone equipment, laser printers and diesel engines, along with footwear, were prominent among the products exported from Vietnam to Brazil last year, which had a total value of just over $200 million.
