Stores must close

Administrators attempting to find a buyer for Land of Leather have conceded that 33 of the company’s 109 stores—30 of which will be in the UK and three in the Republic of Ireland— must close.

The furniture retailer was forced to appoint administrators on January 12 after efforts to secure enough funding to keep going until a buyer could be found failed.

Lee Manning, joint administrator, told the Press Association: “While we are making every effort to sell Land of Leather as a going concern, it is apparent that interested parties will not buy all of the 109 stores.”

He said 109 jobs would go with the closure of the 33 stores, but that there was still hope that some employees affected might be able to move to another Land of Leather store if a buyer comes forward.
