Corinthian leather alive and well

21/01/2009

On January 15, we published a news item on the death of Mexican-born actor Ricardo Montalban, one of whose most memorable roles had been as the front-man in a television advertising campaign for automotive company Chrysler.

Mr Montalban made memorable references during the advertisements in the 1970s to the luxurious "Corinthian leather" that Chrysler had used in the interior of the model in question, the Cordoba. Many reports at the time of the actor's death pointed out that the leather was not from the Mediterranean, but from New Jersey.

The leather, in fact, comes from the Seton Company, which has its corporate headquarters in Norristown, Pennsylvania, and its sales, marketing and design headquarters for its operations in Asia and the Americas in Farmington Hills, Michigan.

After seeing the news about Ricardo Montalban, the Seton Company got in touch to reassure us that it, and its relationship with DaimlerChrysler (as the automotive group is now called), are still flourishing. Seton offers a range of high-quality, reliable leather products and works as a development partner with customers to find the best solutions in customised leather for many elements of car interiors, such as the dashboard, instrument and door panels, steering wheel, centre console, sun visor and, of course, seating.

It has 16 facilities in all in a range of locations in the Americas, Europe, South Africa and Asia, and is proud still to be supplying the Corinthian leather line.
