Couromoda deals worth billions
16/01/2009
The thirty-sixth edition of Couromoda, the International Footwear, Sports Goods and Leathergoods Exhibition in Sao Paulo, ended on January 16.
This year, visitor numbers dropped by 10% compared to 2008 but a large number of the 65,000 visitors were decision-makers who placed orders worth approximately $3 billion at the event, the organisers said.
The companies represented on a collective Rio Grande do Sul stand said the event could not have gone any better for them. The 60 small companies participating closed 1,500 deals for a total of around $1 billion, which guarantees them work till the end of the year.
The stand was co-ordinated by the Commercial and Industrial Association of Novo Hamburgo, in partnership with the Brazilian Service of Support to Small and Medium-sized companies (SEBRAE), the Secretariat for Development and International Affairs (SEDAI) and Couromoda itself.
In the four days of the event, 2,023 deals were closed, 2,163 are being worked on and over 6,000 new contacts with buyers were made. Another 1,123 contacts were made with distributors, generating 202 new jobs in the distribution sector.
