New effluent treatment plant project wins support

The local authorities in the north-western Nigerian state of Kano have said they will support a project to build a new effluent treatment plant there, according to the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO), the body behind the project.
The Nigerian Tanners Council and National Environmental Standard and Regulation and Enforcement Agency (NESREA) are also involved.
UNIDO is expected to give technical assistance in the areas of preparation of documents for the project, provide equipment specifications and training.
The permanent secretary of the Kano ministry of the environment, Alhaji Muktar Danbatta, said that the state government would do everything possible to ensure the realisation of the objectives of the project.
