Pakistani shoe exports rise dramatically

Pakistan's leather exports rose 39% to $90.9 million in November from $65.4 million in October; however, leather exports were 29.4% lower than those recorded in November 2007 ($128.2 million).

Finished leather exports were worth $28.4 million (+17.20% compared with October) in November, while leathergoods exports were worth $52.8 million (+44.9%) and footwear exports totalled $9.7 million (+104.73%).

However, total leather exports for the July to November period fell 7.8% to $454.5 million from $492.9 million during the same period last year. Finished leather exports fell 17.4% in volume from 10.2 million m² in the 2007 period to 8.4 million m² in the 2008 July to November period. The value fell 16.3% from $168.7 million to $141.1 million. Leathergoods exports were down 6.3% to $261.229 million compared with $278.985 million. This includes leather garments worth $198 million, leather gloves worth $59.1 million and other leathergoods worth $4.3 million. Footwear exports for the July to November period totalled 5.9 million pairs of footwear worth $52.1 million (including leather footwear exports worth $44.7 million, canvas footwear worth $0.4 million and other footwear worth $7 million) compared with the 5.2 million pairs worth $45.3 million during the same period a year ago, a rise of 15.1%.
