Former American Leather Chemical Association (ALCA) president, Dennis C. Shelly, was involved in a car accident on November 21. He was pronounced dead upon his arrival at the hospital.
Funeral services were held in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, on November 28 and a memorial service was held in Lubbock, Texas, on December 5.
Dr Shelly was born on February 16, 1955, in Chambersburg. While earning his bachelors, masters and doctoral degrees, he studied at Huntington College in Huntington, Indiana, Texas A&M in College Station, Texas, and Indiana University, in Bloomington, Indiana. After attaining his graduate degrees, he also worked for Eli Lilly and Company and the Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, New Jersey.
With a keen interest in leather products and production, he was serving as the president of the Leather Research Institute at Texas Tech. Dr Shelly was instrumental in the move of the ALCA to Lubbock. He was a former president of the association and current chair of the Ways & Means Committee. He had temporarily been carrying out research at Texas A&M at College Station, Texas.
