Livestock prices rise in the UAE
The price of livestock doubled in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) prior to the Muslim festival Eid ul Adha. Traders attributed the dramatic to higher transportation charges, feed prices and other expenditures.
Animals from Iran, Africa, Syrian, Somalia and Pakistan have flooded the UAE market. However, according to reports, an Iranian sheep that would have cost Dh400 ($109) two weeks ago now costs up to Dh1,000. The price of African cows has also doubled from Dh3,000 to Dh6,000.
Syrian sheep cost around Dh1,500 and the price of Pakistani sheep approximately Dh3,000. The cheapest sheep available come from Somalia and can be purchased for Dh400, but provide less meat.
