Mr Fawad has been elected chairman for the fourth time since the association’s inception in 2001.

Muhammad Danish Khan of M/s Highway's Creation (Pvt) Ltd (Karachi) and Syed Nadeem Abbas of M/s Hint Fashions (Sialkot) were elected as vice chairmen of the association.

Other board members are: Rizwan Rashid, Irfan Iqbal, Muhammad Saleem Ahmed, Rizwan Ahmed Khan, Ikram Ilahi, Rashid Arshad Zahur, Atif Ashraf, Cavish Farrukh, Mukhtar Ahmed, Abdul Waheed Sandal, Rafiq Sethi, Tariq Masood Chaudhry, Sohail Khawar Mir, Arshad Mahr, M. Akram Baig, Imjaz Latif, Agha Saddain, Ghulam Murtaza and Mazhar Hussain.

Addressing the members, Mr Fawad said efforts are being made to explore new markets for leather garments in South America, Australia, the US and Japan.

However, he voiced concerns that the global economic meltdown could cause leather garment exports to slip this year compared with exports worth $529 million last year.

He revealed that the PLGMA has set up common facility centres in Karachi and Sialkot in order to provide job work services for the industry. Both are equipped with the latest machinery.
