Clariant presents leather trends in Guangzhou

03/12/2008

Leather chemicals firm Clariant has presented its autumn-winter 2009-2010 trends for leather articles and fashion items in Guangzhou, China. The event took place at the Ritz-Carlton.

More than 200 people including tannery operators and leather, shoe and bag wholesalers and buyers, were given information about these trends as well as about techniques and treatments needed to achieve different looks and colours on leather articles.

Clariant’s fashion specialist Addy Ng presented the forecasts with four distinct themes: Rich Tradition, Craftsman, Woodland Spirit and Charm School (see www.leatherbiz.com August 8).

According to Mr Ng: “The vintage look inspired by, for example, vintage cars in Miami, should also not be neglected. It’s going to come out in winter pastel colours in feminine styles. Shiny patent finish and flower-inspired patterns, like roses tied by a leather ribbon, are some ideas how it may work on shoes.”

He pointed out that waxy leather will still be going strong on bags and shoes for the seasons, while tile-pattern leather will be the trick to creating trendy looks. A major interest in Nubuck and suede will also be seen.

Two technical presentations were given by Clariant’s technical experts Gary Dodd and Steve Brown. They introduced attendees to Clariant's leather treatment processes and solutions, and presented eco-aware solutions such as Granofin FCC Liquid, an organic, metal-free tanning agent.
