Fewer Pakistani participants at Chennai fair
The Pakistan Tanners' Association (PTA) says it is reluctant to participate at the International Leather Fair in Chennai, which is to take place from January 31 to February 3, 2009.
According to the association, security risks and tense diplomatic relations between Islamabad and Delhi following the recent terrorist attacks are acting as deterrents.
The Pakistan government’s Trade Development Authority, has offered the PTA subsidies to partly finance its participation costs at the fair. But the violence has changed the minds of members who were all set to attend. Around 15 firms had agreed to collectively take part in the show, and 40 leather exporters had planned to participate on an individual basis.
