PTA appoints new chairman
Director of Lahore-based Royal Leather Industries Ltd, Agha Saiddain, has been elected chairman of the Pakistan Tanners' Association (PTA) for 2008-09.
Two vice chairmen—managing director of Leather Connections (Pvt) Ltd Khurshid Alam, and director of Hussain Leather Craft, Mr M Afzal Hussain—were also elected.
Other members of the management committee include: Muhammad Musaddiq, Chaudhry Zulfiqar Hayat, Mansoor Iqbal, Mr S Arshad Iqbal, Badre Alam, Khawaja Muhammad Ali, Usman Umer, Danish Khan, Sheikh Afzal Hussain, Saqib Jawad, Sheikh Sarfaraz Amin, Shahid Mahmood and Zia Shafiq.
While Mr Saiddain was delivering his 50-point agenda, he said that government support for the tanning industry is essential. He claims the country’s leather exports could double within three years, if the government provides the necessary support to make it competitive with China, India and Bangladesh.
