Leather units rendered powerless
According to reports, more than 20 leather production plants in Jalandhar, India, have had their power supply disconnected.
Officials first attempted to disconnect the supply on November 20, but met with stiff resistance from factory owners. Power supplies were finally disconnected on November 25 by the Punjab State Electricity Board, under police supervision.
It seems the power supply has been withdrawn because the plants involved did not establish effluent treatment plants when they were instructed to do so. Supplies will be reconnected once these firms start setting up the necessary treatment plants.
