Couple fears 'aliens' in leather sofa

With leather furniture suffering in the economic downturn and still recovering from the negative publicity that surrounded a series of skin irritation cases caused by chemicals added to preserve sofas in transit from Asia, the sector in the UK is now at the centre of a mystery in Bristol.

A couple in the city have told a tabloid newspaper that they no longer sit on their leather sofa after it began making a rhythmic squeaking noise. Even their Yorkshire Terrier is afraid of the noise.

“ It could be an alien for all we know,” said Mrs Christine Strange. “The noise is getting louder and louder. I’m scared it’s going to come bursting out one evening while we’re watching TV.”

Another newspaper, The Daily Telegraph, wondered if the couple had considered rodents as a more likely explanation.
