BASF prepares for Chennai fair
24/11/2008
BASF’s presence at the India International Leather Fair (IILF) in Chennai at the start of next year will focus on environment-friendly products and processes. Highlights are presentations of the new formaldehyde-free Syntan series, the new soft polymers, and the next generation of water-repellent systems with products such as Densodrin EP. New, eco-friendly finish products to be presented at the fair include Lepton Aquatop TG, a top coat that provides a natural leather touch and a transparent look.
Possibilities for reducing water consumption in the beamhouse and wet-end processes will also be presented.
Another key topic is the further development of the Fashionova concept, which was specially developed for the leather industry in South Asia. It consists of 25 carefully selected products for elaborating the entire spectrum of traditional and elegant fashion leathers.
Also to be presented is the now complete colour range of Lugafast reactive dyes: Lugafast Black AN, Brown BB, Brown BC, Red RR, Yellow GG and Blue.
“With all our products and processes, the focus is on eco friendliness and economy”, says Thomas Sattler, responsible for BASF’s global leather business. “Our customers, including those in South Asia, expect and demand ecological products that meet their individual requirements. It is gratifying that environmental protection and sustainable development are becoming more and more important. We are aware of our responsibility in this regard and have positioned ourselves accordingly.”
A team from different South Asian competence centres will advise customers at the BASF booth at the fair and inform them of developments.
Another interesting part of the company’s display in Chennai will be Densodrin EP. This product is characterised by level dyeing and reliable application, especially in regions with hard water. It produces a dry surface that facilitates finishing. In environmental terms, Densodrin EP represents a significant step forward. It can be used on all leather types and is particularly recommended for shoe uppers, which must give excellent performance in the Maeser and Bally penetrometer tests.
BASF has also said that the application of the Lepton Aquatop TG product in top coats is a simple, effective way to obtain a transparent high-gloss finish. The product can be readily combined with others in the range. Particularly glossy surfaces can be obtained by applying it together with a casein binder from the Luron product line. Combining it with Luron Top makes the finish very transparent. The good wet rub fastness values can be further improved by adding silicone waxes and crosslinkers. Overall, the product offers an excellent price-performance ratio. Lepton Aquatop TG can be applied to all leathers but is especially recommended for shoe uppers, upholstery and garment leather.
The 2009 edition of IILF will take place between January 31 and February 3, 2009 at the Chennai World Trade Centre.
