China registers 8.82% growth in leather exports.

Between January and August, China’s leather sector exports increased by 8.82% in value terms, $18.3 billion compared to $16.8 billion for the corresponding period last year, according to official data of China Leather Industry Association (CLIA).

Leather footwear exports accounted for $6.62 billion of this.

But on the negative side, exports of a number of types of leather products fell: raw hides by 8.1%, skins by 63%, leather garments by 19.6%, fur garments by 4.9%, and leather gloves by 8.8%.

China imported $4.8 billion worth of different leather articles between January and August 2008, showing a growth of 0.5% from the same period last year.
