Starring role for Prada luggage

Handmade luggage from Prada features prominently in the film Australia, which premiered in Sydney on November 18.
In the leading role, Nicole Kidman plays an English aristocrat who travels to Australia in 1942. The luggage set—hat-boxes, trunks, suitcases of different sizes and even a picnic hamper—was hand-crafted especially for the film by Prada.
The Italian luxury brand used a method that its founder, Mario Prada, would have employed when making luggage for the Italian royal family after setting his company up in 1913. Each piece involves one week of craftsmanship to complete, starting with selecting goatskin leather without any scars or blemishes, stretching it over a wooden frame, gluing the pieces on and stitching them, again by hand, before adding a calf-leather trim. The blue-and-white colour scheme used by Nicole Kidman’s character was designed specifically for the film.
