Leathergoods makers on Brioni shopping list

High-end fashion company Brioni Roman Style may be in the market to acquire leathergoods brands to launch into the accessories market, Bloomberg has reported.

The company is most famous for supplying suits costing around $5,000 to prominent people such as Donald Trump and, as its homepage makes clear, the fictional movie spy James Bond. However, in tough market conditions, it is worried about continuing to grow and it has lost the contract to kit out Daniel Craig, the actor currently playing James Bond. In the latest film, Quantum of Solace, Daniel Craig wore suits from former Gucci and Yves St Laurent designer Tom Ford instead.

According to Bloomberg, Brioni’s three controlling families have hired BNP Paribas to help develop a new growth strategy, which may include selling between 20% and 25% to an outsider.

Co-chief executive Andrea Perrone said: “We would like to do acquisitions, to develop synergies with other important brands.”

Bloomberg said specifically that manufacturers of leathergoods would be on the Brioni shopping list.
