Export fears in Colombia

14/11/2008

The head of Analdex, Colombia's export promotions agency, Javier Díaz, has warned that 2009 will be a difficult year for his country's exporters. He named leather as one of the sectors likely to suffer as lower oil prices affect demand in some of the most important markets for Colombian exports.

Mr Díaz said the effects of the global downturn were already apparent in the Colombian economy, but that slower trade with the US and the effects of lower oil prices on two of Colombia's neighbours, Venezuela and Ecuador, would make the early months of next year even more challenging.
