Leather and footwear exports down in October

Brazilian leather and footwear exports figures keep falling in financial terms.
After having grown in the first two months of the year, tanners experienced a sharp drop in October. Exports fell 27% compared to October 2007, from $200 million to $146 million. Footwear exports decreased 8% from $161 million in October 2007 to $148 million this year.
Accumulated figures for 2008 are negative for the leather sector with a reduction of 8% in dollar terms if compared to the same period of last year. Footwear exports have remained flat for the first 10 months of the year remaining at $1.6 billion.
