06/11/2008
High-end luxury goods retailer Liberty has appointed Edwin Burstell as buying director for its flagship store in London's West End, as well as for a newly launched online store.
Mr Burstell will join Liberty in early December from New York-based luxury goods department store Bergdorf Goodman, where he was senior vice-president in charge of the buying and merchandising of all non-apparel categories, inlcuding handbags, leather accessories and footwear.
He has worked in the US luxury retail market since 1983, having held successful managerial positions at Neiman Marcus, Bloomingdales and Henri Bendel.
Geoffroy de La Bourdonnaye, chief executive of Liberty, commented on announcing the appointment: "I am proud to welcome Ed to the Liberty team. His arrival coincides with the major revitalisation of the store due to take place in the first half of 2009. Ed's priceless experience in some of the world's most respected luxury emporia will help us achieve our vision of Liberty as the most loved and avant-garde British luxury brand."
For his part, Edwin Burstell said: "I am thrilled to be joining Geoffroy de La Bourdonnaye and his team. Liberty is one in a handful of unique retail destinations in the world. It is truly iconic yet cutting edge, and is poised to move to the next level. I hope to be instrumental in this endeavour."
