BLC makes spectrometry investment
04/11/2008
The BLC Leather Technology Centre has invested in new analytical testing machines, including liquid chromatography with mass spectrometry (LCMS), to detect toxic organic compounds, and inductively coupled plasma — optical emission spectrometry (ICP-OES) to detect heavy metals such as arsenic, cadmium and lead.
The organisation has said these new technologies will help it improve the accuracy of the tests it carries out and speed up delivery times, providing next day chemical testing if required.
Testing for toxic substances is now commonplace in the leather and footwear sector. Apart from the testing itself, BLC offers technical advice and practical problem-solving support anywhere in the world to support manufacturers when failures occur.
