Expo Pakistan opens

Expo Pakistan 2008 is currently taking place in Karachi. It was opened by Chaudhary Ahmad Mukhtar, federal minister for commerce, and is likely to attract 325 foreign buyers.

Buyers and trade delegates from America, Japan, Russia, the Far East and Middle East are attending the fair.

Approximately 326 manufacturers and exporters, including six leather and leathergoods exporters are displaying their products ay the event. These include M/s Down Town (Pvt) Ltd, Fancey Mod Leather & Accessories, Foot Print, G.N. Superior, Rightway International and Seven Brothers Foot Wear.

Mr Mukhtar expressed his hope that the country’s exports would remain constant during 2008-09, despite fears of recession worldwide. He said that total exports for the July to September period have grown 20% to $5.26 billion compared with the same period last year. He added that will continue for the remainder of the financial year.
