Leather production slows

According to the Philippines’ National Statistics Office, manufacturing output fell 1.5% in August, with double-digit declines registered by six major sectors: leather products, nonmetallic mineral products, footwear and wearing apparel, publishing and printing, transport equipment and basic metals.

The output of leather products fell 16.7% month-on-month, while the footwear and wearing apparel sector posted a 15% drop.

Meanwhile, the country’s Value of Production Index (VaPI) also posted a 1.7% month-on-month decline in August, with leather products down 16.1% and footwear and wearing apparel falling 15%.
