French spend more on leather
According to figures from the French National Institute for Statistics and Economic Studies (INSEE), spending in the country has not been damaged as a result of turmoil in the world’s financial markets. The institute reports a monthly increase of 0.6% for consumer spending in September.
Following a decline in August, experts had expected spending to fall 0.2% in September, but this estimate was proved wrong.
Against the odds, spending on automobiles rose 0.7% in September and spending on leather and textiles rose 2.8%, having fallen 1.9% in August.
