Financial crisis hits exporters hard

With sales on hold because of the current global financial crisis, several Uruguayan beef exporters are dismissing employees and suspending operations temporarily.
"The uncertainties in the international financial scene, the extreme volatility of commodity prices and exchange rates in the main beef markets are making operators stay out of the market and avoid new business," said local consultants Blasina and Tardáguila Consultores Asociados.
