Leather bucks the trend

Figures from Ireland’s central statistics office show that the country’s retail sales fell 6% in volume in the year to August, the biggest drop recorded since February 1984. Month-on-month retail sales dropped 2.7%. Declines were mainly prompted by lower sales in the motor trades sector.
For the period May to July, the biggest sales increase was achieved by the footwear and leather sector, with strong growth of 3.3%.
