Leather production rises

According to figures from Pakistan’s Federal Bureau of Statistics, leather production grew 1.23% in July compared with production in July 2007. The country produced 1.8 million m² in July compared with 1.7 million m² in the same month last year.

The number of pairs of shoes produced also rose, from 1.7 million pairs in July 2007 to 2.8 million pairs in July 2008, an increase of 60.1%.

Despite this, sole leather production fell 11.11% to eight tons during the month from nine tons in July 2008.
