Modacalzado and Iberpiel represent 70% of Spanish footwear firms
According to organisers, international footwear and leather fashion trade fair Modacalzado and Iberpiel brought together 70% of companies operating within the Spanish footwear industry.
However, the fair, which took place September 25-27 in Madrid, welcomed 13,312 professionals, an 8% decrease compared with the last edition. This was said to be a direct consequence of the global economic slump and a drop in demand. More than 1,000 footwear and leather accessory brands were on display.
The largest increases in terms of visitor numbers were Italy (60%), France (32%) and the UK (24%). Fewer visitors from Portugal, Greece, the US, Mexico and from the Gulf attended.
One of the activities that aroused interest among visitors was an exhibition entitled ‘Footwear in the Film World’, organised by the Footwear Museum of Elda. The exhibition presented 25 pairs of shoes and 25 film posters that set trends in their day.
The fair offered a range of trends for spring-summer 2009. For women these included: high heels, sensual sandals, daring shapes and dancing shoes in a range of colours. Daring, cheerful and comfortable designs characterised the youth footwear models, which included sandals, dancing shoes, wedges and open-toed boots. Men’s trends included loafers, sports shoes, boating shoes and dress shoes offering quality and comfort.
In terms of accessories, large bags, patent leather and acidic shades will emerge as the main trends of the season.
