Stahl extends Waalwijk leather centre

06/10/2008

Leather chemicals provider Stahl has extended the leather technology centre. It opened the facility at its headquarters in Waalwijk in the Netherlands in 1992.

The company has made this new €1 million-plus investment in an attempt to stay at the forefront of the leather finishing sector. To this end, it has installed new equipment in the centre’s laboratory.

The company hosted a formal opening ceremony for the extended facilities at the end of September. This
included demonstrations of some of the new machinery such as a Gemata roller coater and spray line fitted with both gas and infra-red drying facilities, as well as in-line crosslinking and a foam generator. There is also a rotary press in the new hall.

As part of the work associated with the extension, a colour room, equipped with a spray booth, a light cabin and other smaller items have been installed.

Although the new extension will be primarily dedicated to work associated with the finishing of automotive leather, there will be a spin-off for all other leather finishing sectors. Stahl technicians will apply knowledge they have gained in the automotive field to other sections of the leather industry.
