Leather interiors have important automotive role

Tanning group Eagle Ottawa has showcased its latest interior design ideas for the automotive industry at a media preview in Warren, Michigan.

"Twenty years ago we were one regional facility supplying leather parts," said Jerry Sumpter, the company's president and chief executive officer."We've evolved into a global force, with 19 facilities on four continents, supplying leather for the most recognised brands in the world. The next phase is our transformation into a complete premier leather solutions provider for every interior component. Our new products and expanded capabilities solidifyour top position in the automotive industry."

Eagle Ottawa's expanded capabilities include component wrapping,lamination and sewing. Special leather effects include custom perforation,decorative and structural stitching, pearl and metalised effects, tone-on-tone leather tipping, logos and placed-designs.

At the preview Eagle Ottawa introduced its InterAuto 2008 collection, a new concept collection of premium, automotive leathers, which will be unveiled to 500 designers and material engineering experts in the global market within the next year.

"We monitor trends in fashion, architecture and consumer products andtranslate them into leather for cars," said the company's vice-president for design, Pat Oldenkamp. "Interiors are setting cars apart in this competitive environment. It's our role to differentiate,providing more customised leather for every application. Consumers want unique car interiors. We're showing there are more options that include leather."
