New products to help enhance full grain leathers

Specialty chemicals supplier Clariant is presenting its Melio Aquabase range of products this autumn, emphasising their ability to upgrade many different types of leather articles.
The company says this applies not only to covered leathers but also to natural ones. Leathers that are polished can be upgraded by this technology.
The Melio Aquabase FPR-01 for reverse roller coater application and Melio Aquabase FPS-01 for spray application have been developed to upgrade full grain leathers. After application of these two products, it may not be necessary to buff leather. A subsequent process can either be plating or polishing. Defects, like tick marks or pinholes are filled, while the absorption of the grain is levelled out. This leads to a much better equalising effect of subsequent base coat layers.

Clariant argues that leathers finished in this way have a very natural character and an even surface, and that upgrading leather by use of products like those in the range is a good way to keep leather's natural elegance.
