Retailers criticised for misleading terms
03/09/2008
Ireland’s National Consumer Agency has issued a report urging retailers to be fairer to consumers by becoming more open on the use of gift vouchers and by avoiding misleading item descriptions.
The example the report gave of deliberately unclear wording to describe products was the lengths retailers go to sometimes to make shoppers think a product is made of leather.
The report criticised the use of “obscure” terms such as 'faux leather' and 'leather match' to make consumers think they were buying leather rather than a product made from synthetic material.
