Two of the principal shareholding groups in Brazilian packer and tanning organisation Marfrig have exercised their right to buy more shares in the company.

Marfrig announced on August 19 that its shareholders had one month to exercise their “pre-emptive rights” to buy up millions of new shares. Controlling shareholder, MMS Participações SA, and BNDES Participações SA (the investment unit of Brazil's development bank) have moved already to exercise this right, buying more than 22 million shares between them for almost $290 million.
