GMG group to invest in Mato Grosso
The GMG group, comprising a number of Spanish and Brazilian entrepreneurs, is to invest in an integrated cattle breeding project in the Sorriso District, Mato Grosso.
Rodrigues Palma from the State Secretariat of Industry, Commerce, Mining and Energy said the group already operates in the Rondonopolis region through partnership agreements with local farmers and meat packers.
“The group is acquiring animals and land,” he said. “Slaughter is carried out at local abattoirs. The beef produced is sold to large supermarkets which have shops nationwide."
GMG intends to set up a bovine cattle breeding project in Sorriso with feedlots, abattoir and beef commercialisation facilities. “The group will develop special genetics by cross-breeding European cattle from the Galicia region, which is expected to enable weaning at five months of age and slaughter at eight months", Mr Palma said.
According to Eduardo Grandal, one of the GMG directors, up to 1,200 direct jobs are likely to be created in Sorriso and surrounding areas as a result of the project. “We will sell to the domestic market as well as exporting," Mr Grandal explained.
The local government in Mato Grosso has offered the group various fiscal incentives including 85% VAT exemption for a period of 10 years.
