Bangladesh leather exports on the rise

According to Bangladesh’s export promotion bureau, the country’s total leather exports grew 12.1% to $462.9 million in the period July 2007 to June 2008 compared with $413.1 million in the prior-year period.

The breakdown showed that finished leather exports totalled $284.4 million compared with $266.1 million in the prior-year period, a rise of 6.9%. Leather footwear exports rose 24.8% to $169.6 million compared with $135.94 million. However, leather bag and purce exports fell 19.6 to $8.9 million compared with $11 million.

The country’s total exports for all products for the period totalled $14.1 billion compared with $12.2 billion in the prior-year period, a growth of 15.8%.
