Profits fall at Minerva

Brazilian meatpacker Minerva has ended the first half with a net profit of US$12.1 million, a 46.7% decline. First half turnover was US$ 626 million, up 68.9% compared with the same period in 2007.

Net revenue in the second quarter was $356 million, down 9.3% compared with the second quarter of 2007, but 7.8% higher than in the first quarter. Second quarter production capacity was 83% and slaughter increased 32.7%.

Minerva became Brazil’s third largest exporter as its exports rose from 12% to 16%.
