Dramatic drop in leather production

According to the Italian National Institute of Statistics (ISTAT), industrial production showed a slight increase in June, rising 0.1% compared with May figures.

However, industrial output fell 4.4% compared with June 2007 data, and production for the first six months of 2008 is down 1.5% compared with the first half of 2007.

And, while industrial production in the textile and garment sector rose almost 10.% in June, the leather and footwear industry witnessed the sharpest decline of all the sectors listed, with production falling 12.6%.
