Israel's trade deficit has increased, from $4.6 billion in 2006 to $6.4 billion last year.
In low technology industries, which includes leather, there was a deficit of $3.8 billion dollars, the biggest deficit for the sector so far this decade.
Grouping leather with textiles and apparel, the authorities in Tel Aviv calculated a trade deficit of $1 billion for 2007.
