The authorities in the Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region in southern China are offering local industries, including tanneries, financial incentives to improve their performance in emissions.
The environmental protection agency in the region, which forms part of China's border with Vietnam, have offered firms 200 yuan (around $30) for every tonne of sulphur dioxide that they eliminate from their total emissions.
