China’s leather exports up 10%

During the first five months of the year, China’s leather sector recorded a growth of 10.6% in exports, reaching $10.2 billion, according to official data from the China Leather Industry Association (CLIA).

Leather shoes had the largest share of this total, reaching $3.5 billion, up by 0.7% from the first five months in 2007.

Exports of components for footwear were up by 39.4% to $581.2 million from $416.8 million over the same period last year.

But on negative note, export of leather garment fell by 1.5% to $267.8 million from $272 million the year before.

China’s leather sector imports over the same period were worth $2.85 billion, showing a growth of 1.3% from $ 2.82 billion in same period last year.
