Leather change leads to scandal

21/07/2008

Top brass in the US Air Force are caught up in a funding scandal after the cost of adding comfortable seating, sleeping and working areas to military transport planes soared.

Senior personnel requested the changes in accommodation because of the frequency with which they have to fly to areas of conflict in remote parts of the world. The air force budgeted for one so-called “comfort capsule”, but costs were higher than planned after generals rejected brown leather upholstery for the new seating and asked for Air Force blue instead.
